Semantically Mapping the Web

چکیده

The millions of web pages populating the internet seem to be unstructured and chaotic, but there are implicit semantic relations between them. In this paper we propose to make explicit the underlying semantic structure of the internet, by measuring joint keyword occurrences in web pages, around our notion of “Semantic Contexts”. As a result, we can draw a “map” of semantic clusters which can be used as a reference for situating individual web pages in a complex semantic space. Further, the methods we propose could be used for disambiguating and refining web search queries, for refining translations, for spam filtering, and in general for semantic-enabling many internet applications.

Using WEESA to Semantically Annotate Cocoon

The Semantic Web is based on the idea that Web applications provide semantically annotatedWeb pages. This metadata is typically added in the semantic annotation process which is currently not part of the Web engineering process. Web engineering, however, proposes methodologies to design, implement and maintain Web applications but lack semantic annotation. In this paper we show how WEESA, a map...

Towards Semantic Web Engineering: WEESA - Mapping XML Schema to Ontologies

The existence of semantically tagged Web pages is crucial to bring the Semantic Web to life. But it is still costly to develop and maintain Web applications that offer data and meta-data. Several standard Web engineering methodologies exist for designing and implementing Web applications. In this paper we introduce a technique to extend existing Web engineering techniques to develop semanticall...

The Semantics of Markup: Mapping Legacy Markup Schemas to a Common Semantics

A method for mapping linguistic descriptions in plain XML into semantically rich RDF/OWL is outlined and demonstrated. Starting with Simons’s (2003) original proof of concept of this method, we extend his Semantic Interpretation Language (SIL) for creating metaschemas to carry out the mapping, employ the General Ontology for Linguistic Description (GOLD) of Farrar & Langendoen (2003) as the tar...

Browser-based Semantic Mapping Tool for Linked Data in Semantic Web

With the ever growing need of semantically linking data across different domain, organizational and diplomacy boundaries using RDF and OWL, one of the major obstacles impeding the advancement of Semantic Web is the data availability. This paper presents a browser-based semantic mapping tool for converting linked data on the Web to be available for Semantic Web applications. It is aiming at help...

A Bootstrapping Architecture for Integration of Relational Databases to the Semantic Web

The vision of the Semantic Web is to create a web of data with well-defined meaning. Most data in the current web is managed by relational databases. Thus, it is imperative for the Semantic Web community to offer easily implemented solutions to bridging relational database content and RDF. Direct mappings means to use the SQL schema to create an OWL ontology and use it to represent the data in ...

Database to Semantic Web Mapping Using RDF Query Languages

One of the main drawbacks of the Semantic Web is the lack of semantically rich data, since most of the information is still stored in relational databases. In this paper, we present an approach to map legacy data stored in relational databases into the Semantic Web using virtually any modern RDF query language, as long as it is closed within RDF. Consequently, a Semantic Web developer does not ...
